The Community Mediation Program

"The volunteers gave us both a chance to talk - and a chance to listen. My neighbours had their own story to tell and wanted to be heard. If we’d just continued bantering at each other, things would likely have gotten out of hand. We approached MRJC at a stage where the dispute could be fixed."

In a community of almost 1 million people like Edmonton, there are bound to be disagreements. These can lead to conflicts if they are not resolved at an early stage. The Community Mediation Program is a service that can help you deal with conflict and find ways to resolve it.

When you contact our program, a Case Coordinator will work with you to explore options for managing or resolving your conflict. We can also help you learn more about mediation and whether it’s right for you.

Services for the Community

Our mediation service creates a safe place where neighbours can talk with each other in a way that helps them understand each other better. Mediators don’t take sides or impose solutions, but with their guidance, you can explore possible solutions and come to an agreement that works for everyone.

Our mediation service can be used in disputes such as fences, noise, garbage, pets, overhanging trees, property maintenance, and many other issues that come up in communities.

Services for Organizations

Community Mediation ProgramMRJC works with non-profit groups and organizations to manage difficult conversations and address conflict in ways that are meaningful and productive. We make sure the mediation process is structured and managed to create a space for group members to listen to and honour others' views.

MRJC does not provide free mediation services to meet the needs of for profit organizations or between individuals and a business. If you are in need of a mediator you can search our
Member Listing (PDF 40kb) and/or the AAMS website.

Services for Families

The Mediation and Restorative Justice Centre will assist families to resolve issues concerning the care of elderly parents. This is facilitated through a restorative dialogue process. MRJC does not provide mediators for other family matters.
