2-Day Case Building Course

Overview

The Case Development course provides a general overview of the Facilitator’s role and the skills they require during the Preparation, Dialogue and Outcome Stages of a Restorative Justice file. Facilitator ethics and practice standards are examined throughout the course.  Victim, offender and community needs are addressed to determine if Restorative Justice and what model may be appropriate.

The foundation for discussion and skills exercises in this course is formed by the exploration of:

  • Participant readiness and safety
  • Informed and voluntary participation
  • Role of supports in the RJ process
  • Victim and offender voice
  • Impact of harm and empathy
  • Responsibility and meaningful accountability

Learning Objectives

  • Introduce participants to Stages of RJ Case Development 
  • Examine facilitator’s role, ethics and practice standards
  • Increase awareness of victim, offender, community needs
  • Provide an opportunity for participants to practice skills required for Case Development
